Carl Edwards waited, and when his chance finally came, he took it. Edwards used the old Bristol tactic to pass Kyle Busch – the dominant driver for most of the race– and held on to win the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Edwards used the “Bristol bump-and-run,” in turn one to pass Busch on lap 469 and never relinquished the lead.

Busch bumped Edwards after the race in an obvious sign of displeasure at Edwards' physical pass. Edwards' returned the favor, spinning Busch in the track’s front stretch. The site of Busch’s spinning car garnered a loud cheer from the fans.

“They keep talking about rivalries, we might have one now,” Busch told television reporters moments after the race.

Edwards started on the poll and held the top spot until lap 55 when he tangled with the lapped car of Juan Pablo Montoya. Kyle Busch, running in third place, passed Edwards and opened up a sizable lead that he held until Edwards caught him for the winning pass.

Same as last year at Bristol Motor Speedway, Lee Roy Mercer helped to celebrate the win in Victory Lane with Edwards, Jack Roush, and the 99 Team at Bristol Motor Speedway.

"That's two Sharpie 500 wins at Bristol two years in a row for Carl and I was here with him and Mr. Jack Roush to celebrate it both times. Third time's gonna be a charm," Mercer told television reporters in Victory Lane.


Edwards' Sharpie 500 win in 2007 at Bristol Motor Speedway was Win #99 for ROUSH in Cup. It was also Ford's first victory with the Car of Tomorrow.

SPEED TV will offer multiple replays of Tony Stewart’s Prelude to the Dream, beginning July 5th at 1:00 pm EST. Previously only available through HBO Pay-Per-View, the race run on June 4th at famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, benefited Kyle Petty’s new Victory Junction Gang Camp II outside Kansas City.

The all-star event featured Tony Stewart and twenty-four rivals, including twenty-one NASCAR regulars and two NHRA stars, drive late-model stock cars in the exhibition: Aric Almirola, Dave Blaney, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch, Ron Capps, Carl Edwards, Bill Elliott, Ray Evernham, Red Farmer, Jeff Gordon, Robby Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Bobby Labonte, Mark Martin, Ryan Newman, Cruz Pedregon, David Reutimann, Kenny Schrader, Kenny Wallace, and J.J. Clint Bowyer, driver of the #2 BB&T Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing-NNS was the Winner of the Sharpie Mini 300. I have been a fan of racing for many years. I have seen many pictures of fans while they were with their specific favorites including teams and drivers and even an occasional pit crew member, all with one thing in common. Most if not all are of the fan smiling while getting their shot,,, there are others who take time to make the one who is the Star feel as if they could relax and just be themselves. I have had opportunities to meet and talk with drivers and it has happened to me,, the excitement,, actually seeing a Living Legend or a Favorite Driver can easily overcome even the most experienced fan, so when I see pics of drivers with a fan and the Driver or person ‘Starring’ has a smile on their face, knowing they must feel at ease, well that to me is impressive for the simple reason that the fan thought to think of someone other than themselves, even in all the excitement, they thought of the driver first.

One such feller is well known and has a following all his own. He is a member of the NASCAR community, often, letting us all know that there are New Pics we can see, that without him taking them, we would have never of had the chance to see our (your) favorites, in that light.

A Fans Fan is usually in places we all wish we could be. He has well known friends that allow him opportunities to do what we all want to do. Most of us can not do the things he does for one reason or another, but we have a friend who is just like us,,, a fan,,, a fans fan cause he knows what we would do,,, he is a fan too,,,, he knows what we would have done and even when he himself may not have done it,, he does anyway just so we can see what it was we wanted to see,,,, just as if we were there,,,, Kinda like the old Memorex Commercials,, “Is it Live or is it Lee Roy Mercer?”

This event took place behind the DAYTONA 500 main stage and received some great TV coverage on SPEED TV and NASCAR On FOX during the national broadcast of the DAYTONA 500 50th.

In addition to all this, I had the privilege of hanging out with my favorite Old School NASCAR driver of all time, Mr. Cale Yarborough, who also appearers on my NASCAR Driver Prank Call CD – GONE RACIN'. As everyone knows, Cale Yarborough is the first Ass-Whooper of NASCAR and like me, It Ain't Nothin' For Him To Whoop A Man's Ass!

I had a blast in Victory Lane at Bristol Motor Speedway with Mr. Jack Roush, Carl Edwards and the 99 Team Pit Crew. Being on SPEED TV and every other TV Network covering Winner's Circle at the Sharpie 500 that night was very COOL as well. The whole night Whooped major Ass, Carl Edwards scored his second win of the year clinching a spot in the 2007 Nextel Chase when he took the lead from Kasey Kahne with 166 laps to go and never looked back....

My buddy Lee Roy Mercer's new CD is out, and I finally got a copy of it. He punked, or crank-called, Tony Stewart, Rusty Wallace, Jack Roush, Kevin Harvick, Jimmy Spencer, yours truly and several others. He's gotten the best of people in racing. It's a very funny CD, and if you ever want to hear some of your favorite racers try to deal with somebody putting them in awkward positions, you need to get a copy of this thing.

If we can get advance sales going, everybody will donate their percentages of the proceeds to Victory Junction Gang Camp. It's a great opportunity to help out the kids and help these drivers make this thing successful. That's why I'm so excited about trying to pump up this CD. Mercer is a great American.
